Farm Bureau is a voluntary, non-governmental, bi-partisan organization of farmers, designed to accomplish cooperatively that which they cannot do individually. Farm Bureau helps farmers to help themselves.
Individual farmers and their families belong to the County Farm Bureaus. The 53 County Farm Bureaus in California are members of the California Farm Bureau Federation, which in turn is a member of the American Farm Bureau Federation, along with 48 other State Farm Bureaus and Puerto Rico.
This means that by payment of annual dues to Kern County Farm Bureau, a Farm Family or supporter is eligible to participate in the services and benefits of these various units of the nation's largest farm organization. Frequently, these services and benefits cannot be measured in dollars and cents.
County Farm Bureaus generate recommendations which are thoroughly discussed by farmers at the California Farm Bureau Annual Meeting. The Farm Bureau then applies its resources to implementing the community based ideas.
The Statewide program is administered by a Board of Directors elected from the 21 Farm Bureau Districts in California and implemented by the executive officers and the professional staff.
Matters of national interest go on to the American Farm Bureau Federation as recommendations for consideration.
