Since 1985, Farm Day in the City has been educating school children about one of the leading industries in Kern County. What started with a handful of schools for a half-day presentation at a local school has bloomed to a two-day event at the Kern County Fairgrounds which has seen attendance during that time reach well over 3,000 children. Farm Day in the City is designed to give students a first hand look at local agriculture. Classes can visit various displays on farm machinery, types of crops that are locally grown, farm animals, what it takes to run a farm, and many other ag-related topics. Children are given short, fun & educational presentations at each display by knowledgeable members of the local farming community. Tours typically last 2 to 2 1/2 hours Classes are invited to bring sack lunches to eat at the fairgrounds after the tour! |
